Challenge: Present dense nutritional science in a conversational, reader-friendly way; bind credibility with relatability; differentiate the brand through accurate, trustworthy education rather than sales hype.

Solution: Structured an article with clear, scannable sections and a data-driven but approachable tone. Included a practical “1-day magnesium menu” and a comparative supplement table to illustrate concepts visually. Added light humor and relatable examples to improve engagement and retention.

Magnesium: The Mineral You’re Probably Deficient In.

Magnesium might not trend on TikTok, but your cells claim for it.

It’s a mineral that participates in multiple ways in your body, from ATP production in your mitochondria (energy) to your sleep quality.

Did you know that we have 25–30 g of Mg in our bodies?

When Food Isn’t Enough: Supplements

What to Look for in a Magnesium Supplement.

In supplements, elemental magnesium is bound to other compounds — that’s why there are so many types.

When choosing, consider:

  1. Elemental magnesium content
  • The “pure” magnesium amount in the compound. It’s usually stated in the label.
  • Example: A 200 mg magnesium glycinate capsule might contain only 50–100 mg of elemental magnesium.

2. Bioavailability

  • How much of that magnesium your body actually absorbs.
  • Even if two supplements list the same dose, the absorbed amount can vary drastically.

3. Tolerability

  • Some forms can cause gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Glycinate, malate, and threonate are generally best tolerated.

Choosing the Right One for Your Goals

Do you just want to raise your Mg levels? 

Citrate would be the best option. It’s highly bioavailable and it’s been tested in several studies. Another valid option would be glycinate. 

Constipation issues? 

You may consider magnesium oxide or chloride. 

Need to improve your sleep? 

Glycinate is the one in this case. 

And what about the Threonate?

It’s a relatively new formulation, that crosses into the brain more easily than other forms. 

It’s more recommended for dealing with migraine and anxiety, and some studies have shown improvements in sleep quality, especially deep/REM sleep stages, improved mood, energy, alertness, and daily activity and productivity [16] [17].

It’s true that it’s more expensive than other formulations, but as with everything: if you are looking for high quality results and your work requires a high cognitive performance, you should consider Threonate.

💡 Key tip: The form (‘as Magnesium ____’) matters more than the milligram count.

A 200 mg glycinate capsule delivers more usable magnesium than a 500 mg oxide pill.
